This is to purchase tickets for your child to see Romeo & Juliet at Dominion MS during the school day on Friday Nov. 22nd at 1pm. The cost is $2 per student and the funds are being collected by their homeroom teacher (if in cash) or here online.
A frequent question that we get is...
"Why is there a cost for the show, when it’s during the school day?"
Here is why:
Fundraiser: These shows are NOT supported financially by the school or district. Plays typically cost about $1,500 to put on (rights, costumes, building materials, props, etc.). This is a FUNDRAISER to pay for this and future productions.
Access: This is a way for students who may not have a ride back to school to come to see the show. This performance will be interpreted in ASL for our deaf and hard of hearing students.
It’s cheaper to attend during the day - only $2 - versus the $3 they would pay at night.
Another question that we get is...
"What about those who don't bring in their $2 or don't have $2 to bring in?"
Scholarships are offered to those students who need it, when the homeroom teacher is made aware. There is an option when tickets are purchased to sponsor another child to go.
We make every effort, including providing ways for students to earn their ticket, with each homeroom teacher able to personally scholarship two students each.
This is not a required event. It's an opportunity, not a reward, like the Students vs. Staff volleyball game, etc. We are giving more students the opportunity to attend the play that 95 of their peers (1/8 of the school) is involved in.
Those students that don't attend, go with a teacher from their grade level to catch up on work in a classroom. It's not a punishment.
We are excited to be able to offer this chance for students to see their peers in this sixty-minute production.
